Literature Text

You were the mystery kid. Nobody knew about you, nobody truly cared. When you went to school, it was just another day to get harassed by everybody, and the people you sort of hung out with. Today, your friends were blabbing about how the Kazekage was the hottest being on Earth. You were the abnormal one, after all, not liking what everyone else liked. Sand followed you wherever you went, and your father never knew why.

Today was just the ordinary. Since your father was a trusted advisor and general of the Lord Kazekage, Sabaku no Gaara, you ate alone. Your father never came home until late hours.

~Time Skip: a few hours later~

“Oh, welcome back Father,” you said as you bowed to greet him.

“Hello, (name), I have some good news,” your father said with a bright smile on his face, “tomorrow, the council and the Lord Kazekage himself have let me bring you in to see what our meetings are like. But be careful; do not speak of this to anyone. You will be called in sick tomorrow for school. I want you to learn about how everything is taken care of here.”

“But Dad…”

“No buts! Your mother wanted it, and I want it too! We put you in school to learn about the way we live, not to be a ninja. We wanted you to help raise this place to be the best.”

“I’m the best in my class! How could you let me down like this? No wonder you wanted a son!” You screamed. You stormed off into your room, not to be heard from until the next day.

~Time skip: next day!~

You drudged down your staircase from your room.

“Good morning, (name). Be sure to make yourself look the best today,” your dad greeted you.

“This is fine,” you murmured to yourself as you sat at the table, watching your dad eat, looking down at your sandy brown and dark (f/c) robes.

“Aren’t you going to have some breakfast?”

“I’m not hungry.”

“Well, at least bring your water container and a food bar for when you get hungry during the meeting. They run long, you know.”

“Fine.”

~Time skip: the meeting!~

You reached the main building after breakfast. You drudgingly made your way up to meet the Kazekage and the council. You opened the door to see about 14 people surrounding a large table. Across the way sat a bright redhead with ice blue eyes.

“Welcome,” was the only word he said to you. You bowed out of politeness.

“Sorry for our lateness, Lord Kazekage,” your father said to the redhead. ‘This guy is the Kazekage?’ you thought, ‘he is kind of cute, isn’t he?’

“It is fine.  Please, sit down.”

You sat down against the wall on the floor.

“(name), come take a chair; you’re part of this meeting, you know,” your father gestured towards the chair next to him.

“I’m perfectly fine down here,” you smartly replied, “another prime minister or councilman will probably sit there and I don’t want to take their importance to the meeting from them.”

“She has a point,” a man to your father’s left added. Your father slapped him.

“As you wish, (name).”

~Time skip: a few hours later!~

‘I really just don’t want to be here,’ you thought, ‘if only I could think of something
clever to get away from here.’ A breeze washed through the room, bringing with it clumps of sand. You almost forgot about your special ability with sand.

‘Perfect! I’ll crawl away and the sand can be my defense!’ you thought happily. Your father soon started giving this long boring speech, so you crawled out as fast as possible. You looked behind you, and the minister on your dad’s left saw you! He winked and gave you a low thumbs up. You guessed he was on your side. Suddenly, a cold, icy, coarse voice began to speak. “Lieutenant, what exactly are you looking at back there?”

‘Oh shoot, the Kazekage saw me!’ you thought as you inched closer and closer to the wall behind you.

“Nothing, sir, just a sand-fly on my arm,” he said as he flailed his arms to let you run away. “Juuuust a sand-fly, sir!”

“Good, we shall continue.” You felt like you were being watched as he said it. ‘That was a close one,’ you thought as you let out a sigh, ‘I could have been caught!’ You remembered something from when you were little, when you used to love climbing peoples’ homes and looking at the views. ‘I wonder how it will look up at the top of the main building,’ you wondered as you jumped up to the top. You answered your question after looking around at your surroundings. ‘Wow, so beautiful.’ You stayed there the rest of the time, until finally someone sensed something was up.

Only problem was, that person was the Kazekage.

Uh-oh.

~The Meeting~

“Someone’s missing.” Gaara said. Everyone looked around.

“Sir, everyone seems to be here,” one of the councilmen said.

“Someone is missing,” Gaara hissed. He slapped his hands on his head and pulled on his hair. He couldn’t remember your name.

“I’m going out.”

“Lord Kazekage, you will need escorts-”

“Alone.”

“But sir, it could be the enemy-” Gaara just glared him down.

“Meeting adjourned until I return.”

“Yes sir.”

~Back to you~

The breeze wafted through your hair as you stared out. You daydreamed about the fact you were going to be a Jounin, or even Kazekage. You were going to be awesome.

“Hi,” a hoarse voice tried to greet you.

“What do you want?” you said jerkily to whoever was behind you.

“Why did you sneak out?”

You turned around, wondering who was trying to talk to you. Your eyes widened. “Lord Kazekage, sir! I apologize for being so rude, please, excuse my manners, sir, I thought you were-” he put his finger on your lip.

“Shh, they don’t know I’m here…” he started to blush.

“Oh, okay…”

“Why did you sneak out?”

“To tell you the truth, this wasn’t my decision,” you started. “I want to grow up to be a Jounin one day, but my dad really wants me to be prime minister. I don’t really have much flexibility, seeing my family line is really important,” you glanced at the Kazekage curled up against his knees, his head buried into his arms. “What’s wrong?” “You’re lucky you have direction from your parents… no, not even… you’re lucky you even had… parents…” Gaara muttered, but loud enough you could hear. Soft tears fell down his face.

“Wait, what happened to you?”

“The demon inside me-” he clutched his heart, “-killed my mother and separated me from my father…”

Your eyes widened even more.

“Nobody appreciated me... never loved, never a true family…”

“But, how…” you started to cry, “how could this happen? Why do these things happen?” Tears just streamed down his face. No answer came from him.

“Never to be loved…” you said.

You leaned against his shoulder.

“Never to be taken care of?”

You inched closer, your arms interlocked.

Tears fell like waterfalls.

“I’m so sorry…”
